Equality for Women Measure - Training

The Carers Association made a successful application to The Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform for funding towards an initiative which will support women in accessing employment in the healthcare sector. This training will run in five locations across the country as follows from March 2010 to June 2010:-

  • Kilkenny
  • Cork City
  • Roscommon
  • Tullamore, Co. Offaly
  • Clondalkin, Dublin 22

The focus of the training is to provide women with two core FETAC Level 5 Component Modules or Minor Awards which count towards a full FETAC Level 5 Major Award. This will be delivered over eight full days, one day per week. In addition, the participating Learners will complete another full day of training in Inanimate & Patient Moving & Handling Training which is essential for employment in this sector.

There will also be an introductory full day session which will be focused on getting to know the Learners, building their confidence and giving them tips and hints in regards to completing written assignments on the Course. As part of the training programme, the learners will have to secure 30 days worth of a work experience placement within a residential nursing home, hospital, day care or respite care facility in order to put the skills learned into practice. This can be completed over the duration of the course.

This training programme is most suited to women who are motivated in accessing employment in the healthcare sector and who need to acquire accredited training to increase their chances of employment. It is also for women who may have not had the opportunity to date to realise their potential in terms of achieving certification.

All interested learners should note that in addition to the one day of training per week in the classroom and the 30 days of work experience placement, there will also be written assignments and skills demonstrations to be completed. All of our training is delivered in a person centred manner and a variety of methods are used to ensure learning is meaningful such as role plays, simulated sessions, group discussions, demonstrations and skills practice. Please review the following attachments for further details on the training planned:-

The personal skills and attributes required for employment in this sector are kindness, empathy, confidentiality, reliability, trustworthiness and commitment.
