Last year's fun and frollicks - Offaly 2010
The Thrill the World dance came to Market Square in Tullamore on Sat. 23rd October.
The very young turned up with their parents, the gruesome make-up and bits & bobs of clothes made them look like something from a horror movie. They were cold but after a mug full of warm drinking chocolate and the comforts of the Carers Tullamore Centre, they were back to normal.
Our attention was then drawn to the older students that turned up, some fully made up others in the queue for the two make-up artists working flat out in the reception area of the centre. The banter, chat and overall excitement from the students certainly put everyone in the mood that something very special and impressive was about to happen in Market Square.
After a last minute rehearsal, the countdown was started and as 10 was reached the voices got louder – this time from the audience – and eventually, after weeks of hard work and rehearsals, the zombies lying still on the ground heard the long awaited music and the SHOW WAS ON.
As the zombies rose slowly from the ground, limbs were flung all over the place, looking at times like they were going to fall off, and then the dance started and for the next 20 minutes or so everyone was captivated. The dance was hypnotic - you just felt you couldn’t take your eyes off it in case you missed something. The moves and expressions were perfect from the very young to the older students and when the end came, the loud roars and screams could probably be heard all over Tullamore in celebration of a brilliant dance that went perfectly and also the world-record attempt. Well done to everyone.
