Who are family Carer?
Family Carers provide high levels of care, at home, for children and adults with special needs, severe disabilities, mental illnesses, frail older people and people who are terminally ill. Carers need to be constantly available due to the high levels of social and health care needed at home and in case of emergency. The Carer’s life centres on the needs of the person requiring care. Carers often overlook or suppress their own health and emotional needs in their concern for looking after the person they love.
Who are Young Carer?
Young Carers are Carers under 18 years of age who provide care to ill or disabled relatives in the home. Their work often goes unrecognised and their own social, health and educational needs are often neglected.
Through the Carers of the Year Awards programme, local Carers of the Year are chosen from all the nominations received. The National Carer of the Year is chosen from the Local Carers of the Year and receives a Commemorative Award and a sponsored gift. The Young Carer of the year receives a Commemorative Award and a sponsored gift. In recognition of their nomination, each Carer will receive a Commemorative Certificate as a memento.
The Carers of the Year Awards 2013 are kindly sponsored by Tunstall Emergency Response.
