Support Group Meetings

We are delighted to invite all family carers in the Balbriggan/ Skerries/ Swords area to our new support group coffee morning for family carers in the Bracken Court Hotel on Tuesday 11th October at 10.30 am. The meetings will continue on the second Tuesday of each month thereafter. We also have a monthly meeting on the first Tuesday in the Grand Hotel Malahide and in Artane on the last Thursday of each month in Artane family Resource Centre. We are changing the day and location of our Blanchardstown meeting to Blanchardstown Centre on the first Wednesday of each month. All family carers are welcome to attend these meetings . We have regular speakers, tea biscuits and chat. There is friendly, peer support. Phone 01-8119555 for more information.

Coffee Mornings for family carers 2011:

Our three Coffee mornings for family carers in North Dublin continue in 2011. All are very friendly, welcoming groups of family carers. We have interesting speakers most months, tea coffee & biscuits. There is no charge. We have occasional outings at no cost to the family carers & some are planned 2011 too. Currently, we have groups meeting in Blanchardstown, Malahide & Artane each month (click on the links to see the time tables).

 New Radio Program for Family Carers

Jacqueline Millman, Blanchardstown Centre Manager’s radio program ‘Caring for the Carer’ has its first airing next Tuesday 16th November at 8.30pm. The monthly program will provide interviews with family carers, information & support. The program will be repeated on the following Saturday afternoon & will also be available on Podcast. Phoenix Fm broadcasts on 92.5fm & the podcast is available on their website at phoenixfm.ie

This week the program includes interviews with family carers attending Massage week & an interview with Paul Sinclair who helps people with Assistive Technology for the Central Remedial Clinic.

 Stress Management Course

Our recent Stress Management 1 day course for family carers was a great success in Blanchardstown & Artane (see photo from Artane on this web page).Everyone who participated really benefited a lot & enjoyed the occasion. We are taking applications now for four more courses, in Blanchardstown, Balbriggan, Artane & Navan. Places are available to all family carers. We ask for €10 donation. Light lunch is included.  Practical Care Skills Training in Blanchardstown

This group of family carers recently completed a FETAC 5 module in Blanchardstown. They enjoyed the course itself very much. The students also appreciated the mutual support & common experiences shared with their classmates. The next course for family commences in Artane at the end of June & Blanchardstown in October. There is no charge for this training which is funded by a grant from the Dormant Accounts. Please contact 01-8119555 for application forms & more information.

Coffee Mornings for family carers go from strength to strength in Malahide.

Family carers in the north Dublin town continue to enjoy these coffee mornings organised by the Carers Association for their benefit & support. A full program of events is planned including a trip to the National Botanic gardens in June. The outing includes morning coffee & a conducted tour of the beautiful gardens. The local community Gardai are making the Garda community bus available to provide transport to some of the group who may not have their own transport.

Speakers in other months will cover topics of interest to family carers; these will include Basic 1st Aid, Relaxation, Dementia & Hand massage from the Red Cross. All family Carers are assured of a warm welcome. The coffee mornings are on the 1st Tuesday in the month in the Grand Hotel Malahide at 10.30am, a central location with free car parking. Active Citizenship Week

During Active Citizenship Week (27th Sept - 1st Oct)in South Dublin the Clondalkin Resource Centre took part in a few events, One was an initiative called "Box Stories"

As part of active citizenship week 2010, ACT (Active Citizens Together) organised a conference on Democracy entitled Time for Action, Time for Change with Guest Speakers David Farrell (professor of politics in UCD) and Siobhan O Donoghue (National Community Platform).  Over 120 citizens were in attendance and presented issues that affect them via a series of " Box Stories".
