Us
When it comes to being cared for, there’s no place like home.
At any stage of life ordinary people can be visited by circumstances that require them to care for someone, usually their spouse, parent or child. For reasons ranging from old age and frailty, diagnosis of chronic illness, accident, or living with a disability, over 161,000 people in Ireland give care at home every day to somebody they love.
These people are family Carers and they contribute more than €2.5 billion a year to Ireland’s social economy.
Family Carers need more than the strength of their love to carry them through. The Carers Association helps people assume their caring role confidently through training, restore themselves with respite breaks, determine their rights with advice on entitlements, and gather strength from each other within a community of Resource Centres.
Each year we reach a fraction of the people who need our help. Charitable donations to The Carers Association bridge the gap between core funding and the actual operating costs of extending our services to the Carers who need us.
