Care in the Home (City and Guilds)
The Care in the Home course is accredited by City & Guilds Institute. The training programme is aimed at family Carers and people working in the Caring profession. The course is aimed at giving participants a thorough basic introduction to caring skills.
The main learning achievements are as follows -
- Identify the various methods of communication e.g. verbal and non-verbal communication
- Develop effective communication and listening skills and be aware of the supports and services available to Family Carers/Home Respite Workers
- Identify the causes and effects of stress and how to manage it
- Define the role of the Family Carer and Care Support Worker
- Identify the procedures to be followed to ensure better health and safety in the home
- Develop the basic concepts of first aid and emergencies
- Identify areas of healthy living in areas such as diet, exercise, food and hygiene
- Gain a sound understanding of the practical care skills required to improve the quality of life for the cared for person/patient
- Discuss the bereavement process and mechanisms to cope with it
- Appreciate the need for independence for the Cared for person through assessment of their physical and emotional needs
- Outline the definition of Dementia and how to provide support to people with Dementia
This course is delivered over 42 hours (11 sessions + 1 full day of patient moving and handling training).
