The Child and Family Research Centre at the National University of Ireland carried out research to learn more about what it is like for young people who care for a family member and see if anything can be done to help them.

This study provides an insight into the experiences and needs of children and young people who provide primary or secondary care to parents or other close relatives with a chronic illness or physical disability. The study explores implications for service provision and identifies approaches that show promise for meeting the social, educational and health needs of young carers.
