Scholarships to Young Carers - Blanchardstown Resource Centre

In spring 2009 the Carers Association North Dublin offered two scholarship places on our popular Care in the Home Course to two Transition Year Students in a North Dublin Community School. The two students, a boy & a girl, were nominated by the Year Head

Both students had some caring responsibilities in their own homes although neither were the main care provider. They participated fully in the course joining in all discussion & activities during the weekly class. They both enjoyed the training provided & felt they learnt a lot that would support them in their future life.

Schools Art Competition

The Carers Association recently carried out an Art Competition during Carers Week in selected primary schools in Limerick which was kindly sponsored by PJT insurance. Pupils were involved in a class presentation and discussion by Limerick Centre Manager Steffani McDonagh. The presentation explored what a family carer was and encouraged pupils to speak about family members who were carers and also caring work they also helped out with.

All students were asked to create a piece of art with ‘Caring’ as the theme. These were judged by Mary McSweeney (PJT Insurance) and staff from the Limerick Resource Centre. Steffani commended all students on their wonderful work and for their great depiction of caring issues through their art work.
